The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge Area “B” Command in Lagos, ACP Sunday Opebiyi has emphasised the importance of stakeholders to the success of the police, stressing that no police can succeed without the stakeholders.
ACP Opebiyi made the remarks at a stakeholders meeting during his maiden visit to Badia Divisional Headquaters on Friday.
With particular reference to members of the Community Development Association (CDA), Opebiyi applauded all the stakeholders for their cooperation and support to the police .
He also lauded the officers and men of the Division for the remarkable achievements recorded in reducing crime rate to the barest minimum.
” If members of a community is not enjoying the services of the police, they will not honour you when you call. The presence of stakeholders at this gathering is an indication of your good working relationship with them. The Commissioner of Police has always implored us to practice community policing because the stakeholders are the eyes of the police.”
Speaking further, Opebiyi implored the stakeholders to desist from posting information about criminal activities on the social media, but report to the police for prompt action.
He urged them to give their children proper education and teach the right path, stressing that the children are their future.
The Area ” B” Command boss advised them to warm their children against cultism, rape and other vices, noting that they are punishable offences.
Speaking earlier, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Badia Divisional Headquaters, CSP Ayoola Olawole Moses pointed out that the menace of cultism was a major challenge in the area, adding that it has been reduced to the barest minimum with the cooperation of stakeholders.
In addition, he said an end has been put to traffic robbery on all the roads within the jurisdiction of the Division since his assumption of office.
CSP Ayoola who however acknowledged the existence of some handful of crimes, said no case of armed robbery has ever been recorded in the area.
” Cultism used to be a major challenge, but it has been reduced to the barest minimum. When i resumed here, I met a terrible situation where cultists cut human head and use it to play ball. As a result of cooperation with stakeholders, we’ ve succeeded in putting an end to it. With the doggedness and commitment of my gallant officers, we’ ve also put an end to traffic robbers on all the roads in our jurisdiction.”, CSP Ayoola emphasised.

Speaking on the challenges of the Division, the DPO hinted that it lacks adequate manpower, logistics and comfortable office space.
He urged the Area Commander to assist in the replacement of 15 personnel transferred from the station.
His words, ” Fifteen personnel have been transferred without replacement, we have only one patrol vehicle and the station is always waterlogged when it rains and the offices very uncomfortable.”
The DPO however commended the chairperson of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA Chief Mrs. Olufunmilayo Akande Mohammed for her support to the Division and volunteering to build a one- storey building new Police Station, which completion has reached an advance stage.
The meeting had in attendance notable stakeholders which include the Baale, Balogun, Iyalode of Ebute Iganmu community, Baale of Abule Onimalu community, the chairman of Community Development Committee (CDC) and members of Community Development Association (CDA) Apapa Iganmu LCDA, Chairman Police Community Relations Committee ( PCRC), Chaplain and Imam of the Division, President Landlord and Tenants Association, the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and the Hunters Group.
