Reps Member Ahmed Munir Sworn-in As Legislator Of 6th ECOWAS Parliament, Pledges To Tackle Insecurity

A member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Munir was among West African sub-region lawmakers sworn in as legislators of 6th ECOWAS Parliament.
In a speech shortly after the swearing in ceremony, Hon. Munir pledged to, in collaboration with other legislatures across the West African Sub-region, tackle issues of common importance to member states, such as; insecurity, agriculture, climate change and quality and affordable healthcare delivery.
He advocated a regional force to tackle banditry, insurgency and other forms of insecurity across the block.
The member representing Lere Federal Constituency, also made case for a single and common currency for trade across the region.
“I want to deeply appreciate President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for the genuine love he has for my family and also for his kind words of wisdom and encouragement granted to me today as a father to a son.
“Words cannot accurately describe my gratitude to the Speaker House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Iyan Zazzau, for his bounteous nomination and I am duty bound to deliver on the mandate he has entrusted me with.
“I am thankful to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, as we are from the same family tree, as my affinity to my senior brother is an inheritance that I keep in trust.
“Congratulations to HE the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin for being duly elected as the First Deputy Speaker of the parliament. There is no doubt that his vast legislative experience will be a plus for the organization.
“My sincere appreciation to our amiable host and landlord in Abuja, as Mr. President fondly calls HE Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, as well as his counterpart, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“I look forward to working harmoniously with each of you to tackle crucial issues of security, establishing a revamped regional force to stem terrorism and banditry, climate change mitigation, provision of quality and affordable education for all.
“Youth empowerment to stem dangerous migration, keeping our future leaders productive here at home, gender inequality within communities, mechanized agriculture, power generation, harnessing our mineral resources, industrialization, boosting exports with emphasis on value addition, robust transportation network, seamless exchange of goods and services, affordable healthcare delivery, launching a single currency and entrenching democracy and human rights.
“The task ahead of us is enormous but not insurmountable, with political will, proper planning and sincere commitment, we shall chart a new course that will propel the region and in extension the entire African continent to greater heights,” he assured.
