The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed food items donated by Saudi Arabia based international humanitarian organization King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) to a total of 33,636 persons in Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states as well as at an educational foundation in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The food items distributed were in baskets that consist of 25kg rice, 25kg beans, 4kg masa vita flour, 2litres vegetable oil, 2kg tomato paste, 0.8kg seasoning cubes and 1kg salt.
The distribution was done per households with each receiving a total of 59.8 kg of the food basket. A total of 5,606 households being the same as 33,636 persons benefitted from the gesture.
Beneficiaries of the food items were jointly enumerated by NEMA and the State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMA) of Kano, Jigawa, Katsina.
The number of households that received the items in Kano State were 2,056 households, with 1,750 households each in Jigawa and Katsina States. 50 food baskets were given to the vulnerable persons in camps and host communities identified by the non governmental organisation in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The food items were distributed directly to the beneficiaries by staff of NEMA and SEMA of Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states. However, the distribution in Borno State was done by a local non-governmental organization, Taibah Educational Foundation and supervised by NEMA staff.
The Director General National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mrs Zubaida Umar through the Director Special Duties Hajiya Fatima Suleiman Kasim flagged-off the food distribution in Kano and Jigawa States.
In Kano State, the Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Gwarzo who represented Governor Kabir Abba Yusuf appreciated KSrelief for the kind gesture, especially with the distribution was carried out during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
A beneficiary Malama Maryam in Kano State said she received the food items at the time that it was much needed. She thanked KSrelief for the kind gesture and the Federal Government through NEMA for facilitating the distribution.
In same vein, another beneficiary in Katsina State Malam Sani appreciated the Saudi Arabia based international humanitarian organization for coming to the aid of the indigent and vulnerable persons in the state.
In a similar reaction, a beneficiary of the food items in Jigawa State Saidu Umar, after thanking KSrelief for the gesture requested for more supports to the vulnerable persons in the state.
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has previously donated food baskets, which were successfully distributed by NEMA in Zamfara, Borno, Yobe and Kano states.
