The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has began a three-day training on gender equity and safety and gender sensitive reporting for women journalist.
The event held at the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) press center, Offa Road, Ilorin, was at the instance of Nigeria Association of Women Journalist (NAWOJ) in conjunction with Norwegian Union of Journalists.
Declaring the programme open, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara state governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaiye who spoke through the Permanent Secretary Special Duties, Alhaji Tunde Salami charged the participants to pay adequate attention to all details, stressing that the training would modernize information dissemination and expressed the hope that the training would be impactive.
In her goodwill message, the state Commissioner of Communications, Mrs Bola Olukoju represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Communications, Alhaji Yahaya Muhammed said the choice of Kwara and the topic was apt, considering the attention given to women folks in the state cabinet.
Also, the National Chairperson, Hajia Aisha who spoke through the National Treasurer of NAWOJ, Rasheed Fatimah recalled that the training began about eight years ago and expressed the hope that it would be beneficial to the members.
In her welcome address, the chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalist, Kwara State Chapter, Mrs Bola Ipinlaye said Kwara remains one of the best states that prioritises women folk in terms of policies and programmed, especially in the appointment of political office holders.
Also speaking, the resource persons, Mrs Veronica Ogbole and Mrs Rafatu Salami said the training is taking place in all states across the federation in order to serve as eye opener for journalists to improve their reportage on gender based issues.
