The Commissioner, Ministry of Human Services and Social Development Kaduna State, Dr Rabi Salisu has said that peace building and conflict prevention can only be achieved through social intervention, transitional justice, inclusion and reconsolidation.
The commissioner expressed this at a general meeting between Department of Political and Peace building Affairs (DPPA), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Ministry of Human Services and Social Development and other Stakeholders during the weekend in Kaduna.
She welcomed the teams and spoke on the achievements of the government so far, in peace building processes and conflict prevention and hopes for more success story that will impact the society.
Dr. Rabi Salisu noted that this can only be achieved through the social intervention, transitional justice, inclusion and reconciliation.
The commissioner thanked the team for coming to Kaduna to learn from their experience and hoped for more fruitful collaborations in the days ahead.
The leader of the delegation, Department of Political and Peace Building Affairs (DPPA) Ms Wifag Hadra narrated that they were on learning visit to Kaduna State because of the numerous achievements witnessed by the Kaduna State Government which she said is very commendable.
She said they were in the state to interface with UNDP, MHSSD, and other critical stakeholders to discuss on priority areas in terms of learning experiences, perspective on conflict dynamics, conflict prevention and management, gaps, challenges and way forward.
The team consisted of UN agencies such as UNDP, ION, UN Women, Peace Commission, Security agencies, CSOs, the special Advicer to the Governor on Peace Building and conflict Resolutions.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman Kaduna State Peace Commission, Dr. Saleh Momale noted that the peace building fund project is an intervention that is one of the key projects Kaduna State is participating fully and it is a learning process that is putting the government on the driver seat and has strengthened capacity and accountability system.
He also said that the Kaduna State Peace Commission has developed a strategic plan to guide the implementation of the peace building processes, noting that the Kaduna State youth peace and security has been developed and is at a draft state, which will soon be validated by stakeholders.
In the CSOs perspective, Mr Eric John who is the co-chair of the Kaduna State Youth Coalition Network on peace and security, applauded government’s efforts towards an inclusive system, where the youth are carried along on youth peace security documents.
He advocated for the use of ICT to strengthen more inclusion of youth in the peace building processes.
Stakeholders were given avenue to summarize the key issues and shared experiences on peace building process, interventions, prevention and resolution.
