There is presently a feeling of mourning, as the traditional ruler of Asaba, Professor Chike Edoxzie who is the 13th Asagba of Asaba in Delta State, His Royal Majesty CFR JP has joined his ancestors.
Palace sources due to tradition, could not disclose the true situation until the normal protocol is strictly observed.
Apprehension became order of the day over the health of the 99-year-old Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Professor) Chike Edozien, who would have been clocking 100 years on July 28, 2024.
However, some Asaba indigenes expresses worries over his health and were seen engaging in hushed conversation since Wednesday morning before the monarch passed on.
It was gathered that he was born on July 28, 1925 in Asaba to the famous family of Edozia, who were said to be the direct descendants of Edozien the founder of Asaba.
The monarch in 1997, was elected as chairman Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers, while in 2003, he was conferred the national honour, Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) by the then Nigerian president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
He was also the Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta.
He was the first black African indigenous Dean of Medicine in a foreign land and royal father of Asaba Clan Delta State. He had numerous awards and honours to his name.
It would be recalled that on the 9th of January this year, a committee dubbed, “The Asagba of Asaba Centenary Birth Anniversary Committee” rolled out programme of events in connection with the centenary anniversary headed by the Ojiba of Asaba, Chief (Dr.) Ben Okonta.
This news broke shortly after the death news of Delta All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain, Cairo Ojougboh who is from Delta North, died while watching Nigeria/South Africa semi-final Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match on Wednesday night.
