A Cardiologist Consultant with the Department of Medicine, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) Zaria, Dr. Muhammad M. Yakubu has said that, most Nigerians are finding it difficult to access medicine due to poor policies.
Yakubu stated this while delivering a lecture at the Annual General Meeting and Training Workshop of Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN) held at the Red/Black Seat Lecture Theater of ABUTH, Shika Zaria.
He said, access to essential medicine is a right in every nation for all its citizens at all levels.
The cardiologist noted with concern, the government’s failure to give intervention in the pharmaceutical industries, which he said, there is remarkable consequence in healthcare delivery, including access to medicine.
Also in her presentation, Pharm. B.P. Idris, Deputy Director, Department of Pharmaceutical Services ABUTH, said that lack of pricing and price regulations is affecting the access to right medicine.
She said a functional system is needed to ensure quality, safety, efficiency of products, as well as managing the problems of substandard and counterfeit medicines in the community.
In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Alh. Abdulraheem Sallau, Director of Administration ABUTH, commended the IMAN executive members for sustaining the association’s visions.
Sallau urged members to maintain their commitment and support towards actualizing the dreams of the association.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Ameer IMAN ABUTH/ABU Professor Abdulaziz Hassan said the 3rd AGM is holding with the support of the elders and relevant stakeholders ,which unified the Ummah under one leadership for the purpose of all IMAN activities to be centrally coordinated.
He said, IMAN ABUTH/ABU has settled all its financial obligations to the parent body and attended IMAN national programmes .
The Ameer also announced the elections of Prof Hajara Umar and Dr. Muhammad Yakubu into the national executive.
