Nigerian Baptist Convention Loses Astute Lecturer, Dr  Reni At 66


*Dies after Family Altar without previous record of any sickness

The Baptist Theological Seminary in Kawo Kaduna on Tuesday morning, lost an astute Theological lecturer, Dr. Joseph Audi Reni who passed away at 66.

Director of Public Relations of the institution, Rev. Abraham Ajiboye announced the death to the shocked academic community on Tuesday in a terse statement.

According to the statement, the academic publics of the Seminary, Dr. Reni was hale and hearty when he woke up on Tuesday morning but told his wife, Mama Rosaline Esther Reni that he was not feeling fine in his body and was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

When the news of his death filtered into the seminary, lectures could not continue as lecturers, staff and students gathered in circles to discuss the painful loss of the amiable lecturer.

Dr. Reni fondly called Baba Reni who teaches with a human face at the seminary, born on  January 31,  1958, was former Deputy President (Academics), former coordinator of Post Graduate Studies and lecturer in Church History before he retired last December and was re-employed on contract by the institution.

Dr. Reni authored many books and contributed to several scholarly works before his death.

Most of his colleagues contacted were not willing to comment on his passage; some of his former students lamented on the Social Media that the passage was too early as he is believed to still have many lives to be impacted. 

He was known to have a gift of counseling and guiding many pastors and their families who went through the seminary.

“Many families make their children to live with the Renis on Campus as Dr. Reni and his wife guided especially the youths to stardom.

“Burial announcements are yet to be made for Rev. Joseph Audu Reni’s final passage.

“He left behind his wife,  children and grandchildren.

“May God comfort be upon the family he lent behind,” the statement said.
