Chairman, Lagos State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, has called on both the public and private sectors to invest in the empowerment of Nigerian women.
Ajayi made the statement as NUJ Lagos State Council joined the rest of the world in commemorating year 2024 International Women’s Day on 8th March.
He said that the theme of this year’s event: ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ is timely and apt, as it seeks to showcase women as jewels who are highly productive in all spheres.
The NUJ leader said that investing in women promotes national growth and development.
“It is no longer news that women are like bridges that connect and uphold any country, hence their roles cannot be downplayed.
“Women must continue to be at the roundtable where decisions to help shape the world are discussed,” Ajayi emphasized.
The Chairman urged women to continue to pray for Nigeria so that peace can return to all communities.
“If you ask me, I will tell you that beyond being top business managers of many establishments, women are also better prayer warriors than men.
“This is why we cannot do without women in the society and at the home front where they are doing everything possible to keep the family safe, ” he said.
He pledged that Lagos NUJ on its part will continue to support gender-based policies geared towards development of women and the society at large.
In celebrating the day with members of Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ),
Ajayi said, “We also rejoice with all NAWOJians of Lagos Chapter, while hoping that the days ahead will be fruitful and prosperous to them all.”
