*Advocates sending high-powered delegation on condolence visit

The Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Senator Sharafadeen Alli on Wednesday, proposed the naming of one of the Senate Committee rooms after late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Dr) Mohood Olalekan Balogun to immortalise his memory.
Senator Alli also advocated the sending of high-powered delegation on a condolence visit to the governor of Oyo state, the late monarch’s royal family, chiefs and the people of Ibadan as well as paying a visit to the incoming Olubadan, who incidentally was a member of House of Representatives.
According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media to Senator Alli, Akeem Abas proposed the naming in his motion of urgent national importance at the plenary on Wednesday.
The motion called for expression of heartfelt condolences to the late Olubadan’s family, chiefs, the people of Ibadan, Yoruba race, and Nigeria as well as highlighted the exceptional contributions of the revered monarch, saying he excelled as a statesman, former Senator and custodian of Yoruba culture and tradition.
Senator Alli in the motion, stressed that late Oba Balogun’s wisdom, leadership and dedication to his people would be deeply missed, calling for unanimous support as a fitting tribute to his remarkable legacy.
He then urged the Senate to observe a minute silence to honour the memory of the late monarch, who is also a former senator and elder statesman a request granted and observed by the Senate.
Also, the trio of Sen. Yunus Akintunde (APC-Oyo Central), Sen. Abdulfatai Buhari(APC-Oyo North) and Sen. Abba Moro (PDP- Benue South) among others rose in Plenary and supported the motion.
