Oyo State Commissioner for Local Government, Hon Segun Olayiwola on Thursday, hinted that the state
government will not compromise the age long process in choosing a new Alaafin of Oyo.
Hon Olayiwola dropped this hint in Ibadan while hosting the State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade into his office on a fact finding mission.
The Commissioner for Local Government emphasized that there will be no going back in the state government commitment to sustaining the age long tradition of the selection process.
Specifically, Hon Olayiwola, stressed that the state government will ensure the integrity of the selection process and prevent any form of compromises in choosing a new Alaafin of Oyo for the people.
He maintained that the present administration in Oyo State is
committed to the development of traditional institutions in the state and that the near completion of the palace of Olubadan of Ibadan land is possible largely because of the personal intervention of the government.
Hon Olayiwola disclosed that the Gov Makinde administration has enthroned imperial majesties, royal majesties, royal highnesses and Baales running to over 60 in a bid to secure the territorial integrity of Oyo State.
The commissioner also stated that Gov Makinde has been working closely with traditional institutions towards strengthening security architecture across the state, curbing activities of illegal miners through community based approach and stopping the menace of land grabbers and herdsmen
Speaking on local government administration, Hon Olayiwola said local government autonomy can only be sustainable, if the federal government steps in to take up financial responsibilities for public primary schools and medical institutions to relieve the financial burdens of the state government
According to him, the salaries and allowances of teachers and local government employees in Oyo State amounted to over N5 billion every month, which the state has been managing judiciously to bring dividends of democracy to the grassroots
On the next month local government election in the state, he assured that the Ministry is working tirelessly to ensure that the election is free and fair, adding that his is committed to upholding democracy and good governance in Oyo State,
He then tasked all the stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and voters, to abide by the rules and regulations of the electoral commission for peaceful electoral process
