*Demands palliatives from Tinubu for retired officers

Chairman of the Association of Police Retirees, under Contributory Pension Scheme, Kaduna State Chapter, CSP Manir Lawal Zaria (rtd), has said that the ill treatment of retired police officers is contributing significantly to the insecurity challenges in the country.
CSP Manir who stated this while briefing journalists, said serving police officers are no longer motivated to do the job and pay the supreme price for their country, if need be, hence there is no good plans for their future after retirement.
Lamenting the plight of his colleagues at the Police Officer’s Mess, in Kaduna yesterday, Manir said that they are dying daily from starvation, ill health and other factors due to poor renumeration from the Police Contributory Pension Scheme and as such they are in support of the two bills to exit the scheme.
He applauded the leadership of the National Assembly led by Senator Godswill Akpabio, while noting that the senators gave them needed attention and promised to proffer lasting solution to their challenge during their visit to launch a formal complain.
Manir, however, said that the press conference is important because they are already afraid in the sense that the leadership of Senate will be having meeting with the IGP who claimed to have been making arrangements to assist them, a promise he said, had resulted to disappointment from past IGPs.
The chairman reiterated that unless the presidency does not want to see any retired police officer alive, they should remove them from the pension fund and pay them their benefits so that they can be able to take care of themselves properly while they are alive and not when they are no more.
He also demanded that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should put up palliatives for them like other Nigerians, make them also to benefit from government increase of salary wages, amongst other benefits.
“Everybody is suffering in Nigeria, not only us. So when the federal government came out with palliative, we thought that we are going to be the first beneficiaries but to our greatest surprise, we did not get anything from anywhere.
“The way our colleagues in service are killed innocently to us is a shame and embarrassing situation for us. The failure of government to pay police very well is a factor contributing to the Nation’s insurgency.
“If government take care of the Police whether retired or serving, we can even join hands and end insecurity in one month, using our experiences and expertise.” He said.
