Gusau 1 Brigade Holds 2024 WASA, Pledges  Efforts To End Banditry In Zamfara

The Nigerian Army 1 Brigade Gusau Zamfara State, has conducted its annual West African Social Activities (WASA) to mark its operational activities in 2024, with a view to putting more efforts towards fighting  banditry in the state. 

In an address of welcome, the Brigade General 1 Brigade,  S. Ahmed who was represented by Col. J. Umaru at the event held at 1 Brigade Command Gusau on Saturday, said that  the West African Social Activities was introduced in 1901 with a view to fostering unity between Nigerian Army and other security agencies. 

According to him, the Operation Hadarin Daji  by his brigade, has played a vital role in tackling banditry and other criminalities in Zamfara State

“The Operation Hadarin Daji has cleared several bandits in some areas in Zamfara State for the restoration of peaceful coexistence in the state”.  He said.

He urged communities to report any strange movement by  criminal elements to the brigade for prompt action.

Brigadier S. Ahmed stated that the Nigerian Army 1 Brigade in the state will remain committed in the fight against banditry and other criminality in the state until peace has been returned.

He tasked other sister security agencies in the state to cooperate with the army under his watch to work harmoniously in containing the lingering insecurity as a result of the activities of terrorists and bandits in the state.

In his address, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal who was represented by the Emir of Kaura Namoda, Alh. Muhammad Sanusi at the event, said that his administration has instituted and actively funded the recruitment and training of community protection guards who will serve as a force multiplier in the state. 

According to him, the Community Protection Guards will support the traditional security architecture aimed at curtailing all forms of banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other criminal elements in the state. 

“Efforts have also been made by the state government to use technology to enhance security in the state as surveillance cameras are being installed in strategic locations in Zamfara State to assist the security agencies in the effective monitoring of illegal activities with a view to enhancing security throughout the state”. Governor Dauda said. 

The governor further commended the officers and soldiers of 1 Brigade and Operation HADARIN DAJI in Zamfara State for their professionalism and resilience in sustaining peace and tranquillity in the state.
