Protest Against Hardship: Am In Detention, Police Want To Charge Me For Terrorism – Activist Israel Joe

Delta human rights activist, Comrade Israel Joe on Friday,  alleged that the Police are making plans to charge him for “terrorism”. 

The human rights activist said this to newsmen in a telephone chat on  Friday afternoon. 

Recalled that Comrade Joe was picked up by soldiers at DSC roundabout in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State during a planned protest against the current hardship in the nation. He was subsequently handed over to the police.

The rights activist was arrested shortly after the men of the Nigerian Army also arrested a journalist, Dale Fasan covering the protest at the same venue in the morning. 

Israel Joe said, “I am in detention. They want to charge me for terrorism. Soldiers handed me over to Police that I am instigating protests. I am in detention. I can’t talk for long.”

However, when contacted for comments, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe said Comrade Israel Joe was not arrested. 

DSP Bright Edafe said, “that there were disagreement between Joe and other human rights activists at the venue. 

According to him, “They were assaulting him. The soldiers only rescued him from their hands. So, it’s not an arrest.”

New Nigerian Neespapers correspondent learnt that the Human right Activist, Comrade, Israel Joe is still in detention as at the time of filling in this report.
