Nationwide Protest: We Are Ready To Prevent Possible Breakdown Of Law, Order In Oyo State – Police

Oyo State Police Command on Monday, said it has put in place prompt and adequate measures to prevent any possible breakdown of law and order in the State as a result of the proposed 2-day Nationwide Protest by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC)
The command in a statement by its Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), SP Adewale Osifeso for the state Commissioner of Police, CP Adebola Hamzat, warned against embarking on unlawful protest in the state.
According to the command, while it respects the right of citizens to a peaceful procession, ” it is confident that in line with its statutory mandate, the lives and property of all will be protected from unscrupulous elements who might want to hijack the process for their own personal criminal agenda”.
The statement maintained that the Commissioner of Police, in the state, CP Adebola Hamzat, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and all tactical commanders to personally lead confidence building patrols around every nooks and crannies of Oyo State to include but not limited to critical infrastructure, media houses, government institutions, correctional facilities, banks, places of worship , recreational centers, public spaces and even routes charted for the peaceful protest, with a view to maintaining Public order.”
The command cautioned, ” To this end, while assuring residents about the command’s readiness to tackle any possible threat from the exercise, it enjoins parents, guardians and leaders of all degrees of influence to prevail on their children, wards and protegés against being used by agents of anarchy who would want to take undue advantage of the situation to destroy the relative peace enjoyed in the state”, it said.
Oyo Police command added, ” In the same vein residents would witness heavy convoy patrols in major parts of the city in company of heavy deployment of the Command’s Operational, Intelligence and tactical assets”.
It then advised residents inthe state to go about their businesses without any fear of harassment or molestation and as well, “say something, if they see something, for the Police to immediately do something.”
* The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public particularly residents of Oyo State that it has emplaced prompt and adequate measures to prevent any possible breakdown of law and order in the State as a result of the proposed 2-day Nationwide Protest by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) beginning from Tuesday 27th to Wednesday 28th February,2024.
*While the Command respects the right of citizens to a peaceful procession, it is confident that in line with its statutory mandate, the lives and property of all will be protected from unscrupulous elements who might want to hijack the process for their own personal criminal agenda.
