CHIRP UK Appoints Nigeria’s Capt Caleb Danladi  As  Ambassador

In a significant development for maritime safety and advocacy, Capt Caleb Danladi has been appointed as a voluntary ambassador for the Confidential and Independent Reporting Programme (CHIRP) UK, pioneering Nigerian representation.

His appointment marks a historic moment as he becomes the first Nigerian to join the esteemed network of ambassadors dedicated to promoting safety and transparency in the maritime industry, according to release he issued Friday.

The CHIRP reporting programme, renowned for its commitment to confidentiality and impartiality, served as a vital platform for seafarers to submit reports on safety concerns and incidents they encounter at sea. 

As a voluntary ambassador, Capt Danladi, founder of Caleb Danladi Foundation’s (CDF), primary role will be to raise awareness of the CHIRP programme among seafarers and encourage them to actively participate by submitting reports.

Ambassadors like Capt Danladi play a crucial role in fostering a safety-conscious culture within the maritime community. “Through their advocacy efforts, they aim to empower seafarers to speak up about safety issues without fear of retribution, ultimately contributing to the overall improvement of maritime safety standards”, it stated.

One of the key benefits of serving as a CHIRP ambassador is the opportunity to build an extensive network of maritime contacts. Ambassadors quickly establish connections with industry professionals, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders, facilitating collaboration and information sharing to address safety concerns effectively.

Furthermore, serving as an ambassador provides Capt Danladi who hails from Kaduna, with a unique opportunity to gain a deep understanding of safety issues facing seafarers. 

By actively engaging with reports submitted to CHIRP, he will develop insights into common safety challenges and emerging trends, enabling him to advocate for targeted interventions and preventive measures.
