The nefarious activities of our youth in several criminal activities across the nation is becoming disturbing, worrisome, and negatively impacting the image of the nation.
Investigations showed that in spite of the stiff penalties against acts of same sex relationships offences, there is an upsurge in youth engagements as various incidences recorded at Police Stations across the country are discouraging.
Recalled that one Odiri Rachel Ogezo who was arrested on July 29, 2018 by the Police in FESTAC Area of Lagos while engaging in same-sex with her partner confessed that her involvement was a product of her indoctrination while in a boarding school.
Also, in April 2019, Marvis Osarodon Ogbemudia was arrested, detained and interrogated by the Police in Aguda, Lagos State along with other accomplices following their conduct of public nuisances while holding a LGBTQ party at Carlsbad Lounge and Nite Club located at Adeniyi Jones, lkeja, Lagos. They confessed to engaging in same sex affairs and subsequently granted bail.
In a similar case, a lady named Osarumwense Cole was arrested along with other females in June 2022 at a birthday party held at Club Raptor and Lounge along Stadium Road, Ogogugbo in Benin City where they constituted themselves into public nuisance and breached public peace by participating in a lesbian party, thereby committed an offence contrary to the law.
In Delta State, the Police in Sapele Divisional Heaquarters granted bail to one Goodluck William of 33, Awolowo road, Sapele who was arrested in July 2022 along with other male offenders while engaging in acts of same sex at a gay birthday party at MK Lounge, Sapele.
The culprits confessed to the crime, and some of them have been charged to the court while Goodluck William has absconded in order to evade prosecution.
These disturbing trends have the potential to escalate unless the prosecution and convictions of suspects are timely effected in order to serve as deterrent to other youths with similar cases.
