The Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has assured that all the criminals that have committed crimes and are hiding will be arrested in the fullness of time.
He emphasised that that no form of major incident of kidnapping or major crime that has taken place that the police has not responded to appropriately.
Speaking while fielding questions from journalists at the opening ceremony of a three-day Criminal Investigative Workshop organised by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), annex Alagbon Lagos, the police boss stressed that the police is not sparing any effort in tracking the wanted criminals and bringing them to justice.”
His words, ” If you’ve been following the trends, there is no major incident of kidnapping or major crime that has taken place in Nigeria that the Nigerian police have not responded to appropriately.
” Even those who have not been arrested and have committed crimes and are hiding, we’re still going to get them. We’re not sparing any effort in tracking them down and bringing them to justice.”
Speaking further, Egbetokun said the Force, in partnership with other agencies, are working to put an end to kidnapping across the country.
The Police boss said collaborations to end the influx of illegal arms used in perpetrating crimes in the country were also ongoing.
According to him, “we are working to stop the flow of arms. We are focusing on the routes where these arms originate. We are collaborating with other agencies like the Nigeria Customs Service, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Military and Department of State Service, DSS. We assure you that we are committed to solving the problem of kidnapping.
The Inspector General of police Egbetokun explained that the workshop, themed: ‘Advancing Professionalism in Criminal Investigation for Enhanced Criminal Justice Delivery in Nigeria,’ held at the Black Diamond Hotel, Victoria Island, was aimed, among other benefits, to equip officers on investigative reporting.
IGP Egbetokun say the activities are just a part of what we do generally in Nigeria. We’re starting with Force CID here in Lagos. From here, we’re heading to Kaduna for another one. After Kaduna, we’ll proceed to Enugu. Our goal is to build our detectives into professionals, ensuring positive changes in how our officers conduct investigations. This training aims to elevate confidence and impact ethics, sparking an ethical revolution in the CID.
Earlier in his opening remark, Assistant Inspector General of Police, FCID Annex, Alagbon Lagos, AIG Idowu Owohunwa said, “ prioritization of training and human capacity development is a strategic pathway to entrenching professionalism, engendering ethical regeneration, and enhancing public trust.This remains a necessity rather than an option.”
According to him, ” The choice of the theme of this engagement was carefully crafted to reflect the reform agenda of the IGP in restoring police investigative excellence by exposing detectives of the department to specialized training and re-orientation programs that are directed at bridging their investigative knowledge gap and aligning their professional activities with the realities of crime dynamics in Nigeria.”
