Killing Of 16 Soldiers: Norther Group Calls For Justice, Professionalism In Identifying Perpetrators

The Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) has condemned the killing of 16 soldiers of the Nigerian Army of Okuama community in Ughelli South local government area of Delta State.

A statement issued  today by the chairman, Isaac Abrak, cautioned the military against revenge, insisting that justice must be served to honour the sacrifices of the brave servicemen that were murdered.

He appealed to the Nigerian Army to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident, ensuring that justice is pursued professionally and without harming innocent civilians.

The chairman further explained their hearts go to the families of the fallen soldiers, and stood in solidarity with the Nigerian Army during the time of mourning.

The statement called for the swift identification and prosecution of those responsible for what it called “the heinous act”.

It noted, “History has shown that heavy-handed responses can exacerbate tensions and hinder military and public cooperation.”

The statement appealed to Bola Ahmed Tinubu and state governors to prioritize the revitalisation of the forest guards to tackle criminals hiding in the forests.
