Women have been implored to venture into businesses to add value to themselves and their families.
The Vice Chairman, Kam Holdings Nigeria Limited, Alhaja Bolanle Iyaduni Yusuf gave the charge, while speaking at a seminar organized by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalist (NAWOJ), Kwara State Chapter, held at the Press Center, Offa Road, Ilorin.
Alhaja Yusuf who spoke through the Sales Manager, Mrs Oluwatoyin Egobi, said each business must be done with the aim of making profit and impacting on oneself and the society at large.
She however, advised that future entrepreneurs should develop clear vision, build strong networking, take calculated risks and stay organized at all times, in order to have successful businesses.
Others according to Alhaja Yusuf, is to hire a great team, manage emotion, be adaptable and separate personal affairs from business.
In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer, Amugold Global Network , Mr. Temitope Amujo who was represented by Mariam Orire, said single source of incomes no longer sustain families, hence the need to diversify as a journalist, either through content creation, freelance writing and editing, or media consultancy for people.
Also, the Chief Executive Officer, Ambassador Store, Dr. Janet Faremi told women to shun pull down syndrome among themselves and encouraged them to engage in businesses in order to be self reliant.
Earlier, the Chairperson NAWOJ Kwara State Chapter, Ms Ayobola Ipinlaye said the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day, ‘Invest in Women Accelerate Development’ was further broken down to women journalists and entrepreneurs in order to remind them on the need to play pivotal roles at the home front by being helping hands, rather than liability.
She however, commended the state governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq for women inclusiveness in the state policies and governance.
In his goodwill message, the chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, Abdullateef Lanre Ahmed, said the topic was apt, considering the economic situation of the country and the need to diversify for self sustenance.
Participants at the seminar commended the organisers and promised to utilise all the knowledge gained.
