*Insists unnecessary taxation should be lifted

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, (TUC) has lamented that workers in the country are in terrible situation and as such government must live up to its constitutional responsibilities to give them succor.
This is as the Secretary General of TUC, Comrade Nuhu Toro, said that suffering Nigerians have no hope in the country until the high cost of living as a result of the inflation rate hitting the country is properly checkmated, managed and regulated.
Speaking at the TUC 7th Trennial Delegates Conference held in Kaduna yesterday, Nuhu remarked that they had argued that wage award be paid to Nigerian workers to ameliorate what they are going through alongside other vulnerable Nigerians.
The TUC scribe also reiterated that, “we also argued that the cost of diesel and unnecessary taxation should be lifted up people so that they can have some succor, but beyond that government need to regulate the prices of goods and services in the market. That is the only time they can have succor because you cannot imagine a bag of rice hitting a hundred thousand Naira. (N100,000)
“How many people in Nigeria can afford it, so the task is on the government that we elected. By the time prices of goods and services are regulated, that is when people can have value for their money.”
He further urged the workers to imbibe the spirit of unison, work together and collaborate with whoever that emerges as their leader from the triennial conference, adding that the best way to survive contemporary challenges faced by workers in the country is to embrace togetherness as the only way to get what belongs to them.
In his remarks, the Head of Service, Kaduna State, Hajiya Habiba Shekarau said that there is a good rapour between the organized labour union and the Kaduna State Government.
Habiba, represented by her Director, Trade and Labour matters, Mr. Shehu Muhammed, said that the office has made it mandatory that any policy that has to do with civil servant will involve the organized labour union as stakeholders before policies about them can be made.
He disclosed that there was not a time they had misunderstanding in the area of policy making and other issues relating to them.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the event, the Chairman, TUC Kaduna State Council, Comrade Abdullahi, Danfulani appealed to the delegates to behave themselves in an orderly manner and choose the best leaders that they deem fit to lead them in another phase of the union and its struggles.
Shehu who is also an aspiring candidate in the election for his second tenure, expressed optimism that the outcome of the election will favour him.
